Nanga Parbat, mountain peak in the Himalayas, situated in the Pakistani-controlled part of the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmîr. One of the highest peaks in the world 8,125 m (26,657 ft), Nanga Parbat is considered the most treacherous of the Himalayas, and many fatalities have occurred among climbers. It was first scaled in July 1953 by a German-Austrian expedition.
